Pre-War Late 1930's USAAF D-1 Mechanic's Groundcrew Leather Sheepskin Flight Jacket USAF

Pre-War Late 1930's USAAF D-1 Mechanic's Groundcrew Leather Sheepskin Flight Jacket USAF

$0.00

This one is a very special piece. Extremely hard to find in any condition (almost always ravaged, given the circumstances in which they were used) in this good condition, with the original working talon zipper, this D-1 Leather Jacket is a holy grail.

This is a pre-war issue of the coveted D-1 Mechanic's or "Groundcrew" Cold Weather Leather Jacket.

"The pre-war versions of this jacket have no contractors tag as they were made "in house" before a need for civilian contractors arose. These were manufactured by "MFG SAAD". SAAD stands for San Antonio Aero Depot, These SAAD jackets are distinguishable by the sleeve seams and the diagonal seams at the front of the jacket. Also the back is made up of four panels as opposed to two."

Even the original AAF arm stencil remains totally crisp and clear on the arm. The leather, although old and light worn, is still very flexible and totally wearable if one desires. You likely will not find another example as nice as this.

Matching B-1 Leather Trousers are also being sold in a separate listing.
