1950's 60's US Army Vietnam War Mitchell Camo Custom Made Jungle Combat Canvas Shirt
1950's 60's US Army Vietnam War Mitchell Camo Custom Made Jungle Combat Canvas Shirt
An incredibly special item. In the early years of the US military’s presence in Vietnam there was no jungle specific camo garments issued as of yet (Tiger Stripe was still in development). There were however a supply of special Reversible “Leaf Pattern” or “Mitchell Pattern Camo” Canvas Tent/ Ponchos floating around that were taken by early US advisors to local “in country” Vietnamese tailors who then turned them into any number of custom patterned garments to suit whatever needs were required.
Surviving examples are very rare and very sought after due to the uniqueness and the vivid colours/ beauty of the Mitchell Camo.
This shirt is in great condition, with all the original rivet buttons intact. The camo material has the perfect faded patina and looks absolutely beautiful on both the green and tan sides of the shirt.
