Another timeless and iconic military pattern from WW2. This time it is the great M43 quilted jacket liner.
Don’t let the word “liner” fool you. This is a full blown functional jacket, complete with hip pockets, knit cuffs/ collar, and the wonderful hoop front button closures (which are all completely intact!)
These were issued to the US Army as part of the M43 cold weather jacket system, but proved so popular that they were often seen being worn on their own, without the M43 shell. Even long into the post war years with the civilian surplus market, these jackets pop up throughout historic photos in the most unusual places (See below with the bird hunter wearing one).
The perfect example of stripped down utilitarian design.
