WW2 Type N-4 US Navy Olive Deck Jacket.
WW2 Type N-4 US Navy Olive Deck Jacket.
A truly stunning design from the Second World War that we are always trying to source, yet rarely ever finding in good wearable condition (I believe this is only the 2nd we have ever had in 10+ years!) with the original/ perfectly intact TALON zipper and lovely clear USN stamp.
What a treat to behold. This garment fits perfectly in a modern Menswear wardrobe with a timeless design and silhouette.
Here is a short write up from the great EASTMAN Leather’s website:
“Introduced during WWII the N-4 was an intermediate weight ‘field jacket’ that was the U.S. Navy’s counter-part to the U.S. Army’s M-41. Primarily it was designed for units that would be operating on shore, such as beach battalions and units like the famous 'Seabees', hence it’s army-like olive-drab shade of green for land camouflage.
Whilst the US Army M-41 was soon superseded by an altogether heavier duty combat jacket - due to the somewhat harsher conditions of demanding combat activities - the N-4 proved to be more appropriate for the US Navy.
The practicality of the N-4 is that it is light, yet warm. The shell is made from a light but strong weave poplin cotton, and the lining is 100% melton wool. The neat and trim fitting cut is very contemporary and stylish, which means it suits every day casual wear even today.”
A wonderful piece of history that is not to be missed!
